You Are a Gift.

July 24, 2012

For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!
~Ephesians 5:8

We are gifts.
Every ounce of us is purposeful.
Nothing about who you are is a mistake.
No one on this earth is like you.
No one on this earth will ever be like you.
Which means, no one can do what you can do on this side of heaven.

If we recognize the gift we are, the light in us, then and only then are we capable to live a life of value. Only then can we recognize that all of who we are is a gift back to the Creator.

Our value goes beyond the superficial and finds a depth that touches the heavens. When we recognize our gifts and talents are a God send and given with a distinct purpose, we can then give value to the lives we live. Not because of who we are, but because of Whose we are.

Your are a gift that gives value to every moment you are present in.
As a gift, you give value to the relationships you are in. You give value to the work you do.

Our value isn’t in the things that are our surface. As C.S. Lewis said, “You aren’t bodies with a soul. You are a soul, that has a body.”

Our careers aren’t a gift, the labor we pour into jobs because of a reflection of love and passion is the gift. Our relationships aren’t the gift, it’s the partnership of recognizing someone else’s value and coinciding together to better this world. Combining our lights that radiate from our souls to pull those who are drowning in darkness of self worth into the light of perfection in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 5:8 tells us before Christ, we were of darkness. In that darkness we can’t see our worth and we miss the precious gift we are. When we miss these things, we swim in darkness. We search for anything that can fill us up. We take anything that seems like a light of hope and we grab a hold of it. And we run. We run hoping that it’s the light in the eye of the storm. We run in hope it’s the break that we have been waiting for. We run in hope that it’s the breath of fresh air we have been longing for. But grabbing anything but the light and love of God and running is only running away from Him.

The only thing that can pull us out of the darkness of the storms of life is the ocean of love and grace that God offers in His Son. Who reached down to every aching soul with a light and love that tells us to stop running and find rest in the everlasting love He promises.
