Ripples of His love.

Have you ever considered the power in your words and actions?

Did you ever wonder if the very way you think effected generations and lives you would never encounter?

What if the way you lived your life was starting ripples that could turn into gentle soothing waves crashing into the shore or could cause a tsunami of hate into hearts you will never meet?

Imagine if every action taken or not taken and every word said or left unsaid sent a ripple into eternity. Everything we say and do are like small pebbles that splash onto hearts and souls every day.

Pierce Harris said, “Memory is a child walking along a seashore. You never can tell what small pebble it will pick up and store away among its treasured things.”

What if you couldn’t see the world through your eyes, but instead saw it through the eyes of those you have impacted with your words and actions?

Would the picture be as perfect as you painted it? Would you have talked to the stranger in the store as you intended? Would your loved ones know the depth of love you feel for them?

You see, we judge ourselves based upon what we intended to do, while everyone else judges us on what we have done. People don’t see your logic. What they see is the action. What they hear is the words. However, it is not as most would perceive.

We assume people remember our nice deeds and kind words, or remember our hurtful words and actions – but they don’t. What people remember is how those deeds or words made them feel.

As Maya Angelou said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

In John 13, Jesus told His disciples that the world would recognize them as His if they would love one another. He called us to His new command, to love each other as He has loved is.

If my life and yours is a pebble, our actions and words can be thrown to touch lives we will never meet. We cause small waves and ripples in every moment with every soul we meet.

Christ calls us to be ripples of His love.

So it provoked a self reflecting question that made me wonder….

Aren’t we all just a ripple or splash in His ocean of grace?
